Updated September 2026.
The short answer
Tesla has not published any warranty, service, or protection-plan terms for Optimus. No consumer has taken delivery: initial Optimus 3 builds go to Tesla’s internal Optimus Academy for training data collection (RoboZaps analysis of Tesla’s investor deck).
The ownership timeline, as stated by Tesla
- Tesla’s July 2026 Q2 shareholder update anticipates Optimus 3 production starting “later this year”; high-volume production is targeted for 2027 (RoboZaps).
- Limited external/B2B sales are a possible late-2026 step, not confirmed (Optimusk release-date tracker).
- Musk’s stated consumer-sales target is end of 2027, set at Davos in January 2026; analyst consensus puts realistic consumer availability at 2028-2029 (same source).
What a warranty will have to cover
Analysis by HumanoidApplications: published BOM projections put actuators at over half of a humanoid’s bill of materials, with dexterous hands a further 19% (RoboZaps). Actuator and hand coverage terms – and whether battery degradation is covered – will decide what an Optimus warranty is actually worth. We will publish the terms verbatim when Tesla releases them.
Protection plans
No third-party protection plan exists for Optimus today. We maintain a repair waitlist for humanoid owners and operators – joining it is the fastest way to be notified when repair support and protection options for your platform become available.
