Overview

Xiao Di (小迪) is BYD’s first humanoid robot, positioned by the company as a service humanoid for customer-facing work in its own retail network. It made its first public appearance in early August 2026 at BYD’s Di Space experience center in Zhengzhou, followed by Shenzhen and Shanghai. It is a working prototype deployed in controlled showroom settings, not a product on sale.

Specifications

Xiao Di stands 1.61 m tall and weighs 58.5 kg. It has 31 degrees of freedom across the body, including seven in each hand. Published capabilities cover interaction rather than manipulation: real-time two-way translation across six Chinese dialects and six foreign languages, 360-degree vision, facial recognition, gesture recognition and lip-movement recognition. BYD has not published battery, speed, payload, price or developer-access details.

Where it is used

The first deployment sites are BYD’s Di Space venues — public new-energy-vehicle education and experience centers in major Chinese cities — and BYD stores. In these settings the robot greets visitors, explains vehicle models, demonstrates in-car systems and draws foot traffic. BYD executive vice president Stella Li has said the near-term goal is two to three robots in every BYD store; medium-term targets named by the company are supermarkets, malls and warehouses, with household use as a longer-term ambition.

Background

BYD set up a dedicated embodied-AI team under its 15th Business Division in late 2024. The Xiao Di unveiling was confirmed by BYD to Chinese financial media on July 28, 2026, after a teaser from the Di Space Zhengzhou WeChat account on July 25. Separate reports of a BYD factory humanoid program were denied by the company and are not reflected here.

Availability

Not for sale. Xiao Di is deployed only inside BYD-operated venues in China. No pricing, ordering channel, SDK or export plans have been announced. Note that the US FCC added foreign-made humanoid robots to its Covered List on July 28, 2026, which bars new models from US equipment authorization.
