Automotive Assembly Line Automation

Overview

Automotive manufacturing represents the most mature deployment of humanoid robots. Unlike fixed-position industrial arms, humanoid robots can navigate factory floors, handle diverse parts, and adapt to different workstations without costly retooling.

Key Capabilities

  • Part handling: Picking, placing, and installing components across mixed-model lines
  • Quality inspection: Visual and tactile verification of assemblies
  • Line flexibility: Rapid redeployment between stations during model changeovers
  • Human collaboration: Safe operation alongside human workers in shared spaces

Active Deployments

BMW has deployed Figure robots at its Spartanburg, SC manufacturing facility. Tesla is testing Optimus units at its Fremont and Austin plants for parts handling and logistics tasks.
